“But He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace,  and with His wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5)

Christmas is all about Jesus, the one who brought that Peace—Shalom—to us!  Celebrate Jesus!  Celebrate the eternal Peace, of which “there will be no end,” and that “Peace” that brings healing to the lost, Salvation in Jesus!  This hoodie announces Peace to the Word and includes the Hebrew Word “Shalom”, peace, giving you opportunities throughout the season to tell others WHO Peace is really about!

A deeper dive into that Hebrew word “Shalom”… I know in our English speaking world, we think of the English word peace as being about the absence of conflict, turmoil or external pressures.  Calmness and sunshine sort of describe the English word “peace.” But consider this: If this were the TRUE definition of “peace,” would you be able to have peace all the time, as the Bible promises. In fact, “peace” is a fruit of God’s abiding Presence (see Galatians 5:22-23).  An “all-the-time” reality. The truth is that God’s peace—His “Shalom”—is not dependent on things being calm around you!  It’s the idea of being “whole” or “made complete” on the inside.  We can only be made so in Jesus.  His Salvation brings wholeness and completeness—Shalom—because it restores us to God!  The reason why this Isaiah verse is so “Christmas-cardy” is because it is the heart of the Christmas message:  “For unto us a child is born…Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Shalom)!” God incarnate, come to restore us to Himself!  When the angels showed up to announce His birth, they heralded it with “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth PEACE among those with whom he is pleased!  (Luke 2:14)

Peace on earth!  God’s Shalom is here!  Jesus!
